Here I am putting together a list of some useful tools for teachers.

  • HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN CROSSWORDS/FIND A WORD PUZZLES
1. The first is for making a crossword puzzle online or to print out (I think if you save it). This online puzzlemaker allows you to time yourself, gives clues, such as letters if you want some help, and includes many ready-made puzzles. Try it. I think you'll like it!

2. Puzzlemaker is also quite easy to use. However, you don't have an option with Puzzlemaker. You will need to print out the puzzles made at this site.

  • MOVIE LESSON PLAN - 'SPELLBOUND'
3. If you haven't already seen my blog, here is a link to a 3.5 hour lesson plan for the movie "Spellbound" (2002) about the 1999 Scripps-Howard National Spelling Bee and eight of the participants.

4. Proprofs is a great site that allows a teacher to easily create online quizzes for free. You can also print out the quizzes and have the question numbers printed in random order on each printing. This is great for preventing cheating. Also, if students go to the site and practice online, they can print out a certificate that shows their score on the quiz. There's nothing to prevent students from collaborating, except that if the errors are identical, it looks suspicious. Check it out. Here is a link to one that I created for a vocabulary class.
